Who Can Still Take the LSAT Remotely in 2026?

Two groups can still take the LSAT® remotely in 2026–27: test takers more than 180 miles or three hours from a Prometric center, and those with approved medical accommodations. Here is how the exceptions work.

The short answer
  • You live more than 180 miles or three hours’ travel from a Prometric center with capacity, or
  • You have an approved medical accommodation that cannot be provided at a center.
  • Everyone else tests in person from August 2026. June 2026 is the last open-to-all remote LSAT®.

You can still take the LSAT® remotely in 2026–2027 only if you fall into one of two narrow groups: you live more than 180 miles or three hours’ travel from a Prometric test center that has available capacity, or you have an approved medical accommodation that cannot be provided at a center. Everyone else tests in person from August 2026 onward. (For the full policy, see the 2026 LSAT in-person testing changes.)

Who qualifies for a remote LSAT in 2026-2027?

When 2026–2027 registration opened in May 2026, LSAC confirmed that remote testing continues only as a limited exception, in two situations:

Exception Who it covers
Distance Test takers more than 180 miles or three hours’ travel from a Prometric center with available capacity.
Medical Test takers with an approved medical accommodation that cannot be provided at a test center.

Both are exceptions you have to qualify for and document, they are not a personal preference you can opt into. If neither applies to you, your LSAT® from August 2026 onward is in person at a Prometric center.

Already registered for a remote test? Here is what happens.

If your registration is for the June 2026 LSAT® or earlier, nothing changes, those administrations are still offered remotely. If you are looking at August 2026 or later and you do not qualify for a distance or medical exception, you will test in person; you can pick your center and time yourself. See how to change your LSAT from online to in-person for the steps.

How do I request a remote testing exception?

Remote exceptions are handled through LSAC, not chosen at checkout. For a medical or disability-related exception, apply through LSAC accommodated testing and submit the required documentation well before your registration deadline, approvals take time. For a distance exception, you request it based on your travel distance to the nearest Prometric center with capacity. Because the exact process and documentation can change, confirm the current requirements and deadlines on LSAC’s site before you register.

What if you do not qualify?

Most test takers will not qualify, and that is by design, the point of the change is a controlled, standardized testing environment. If you are testing in person, the productive next step is to prepare for test-center conditions and the new LawHub interface. The questions and scoring are unchanged; only the setting is new.

FAQs

Who can still take the LSAT remotely in 2026?

Two groups: test takers more than 180 miles or three hours’ travel from a Prometric center with available capacity, and those with an approved medical accommodation that cannot be provided at a center. Everyone else tests in person from August 2026.

I’m already registered for a remote LSAT, what happens now?

If it is the June 2026 test or earlier, nothing changes. For August 2026 or later, you test in person unless you qualify for a distance or medical exception, you can choose your Prometric center and time yourself.

How far do I have to live from a test center to test remotely?

More than 180 miles or three hours’ travel from a Prometric center that has available capacity. You request the distance exception and provide documentation; it is not automatic.

Do medical accommodations let me take the LSAT at home?

Only if the accommodation is approved and cannot be provided at a test center. Apply through LSAC accommodated testing with documentation before your deadline; many accommodations are still delivered in person.

How do I request a remote LSAT exception?

Through LSAC, not at checkout. Medical and disability exceptions go through LSAC accommodated testing; distance exceptions are based on travel to the nearest center with capacity. Confirm the current process and deadlines on LSAC’s site before registering.
